Alright, every nation in the past did things they shouldn't, but some of the other ethnic groups were no angels either - Africans sold their countrymen into slavery, Shaka Zulu was no saint, the Romans steamrollered everybody and woe betide anyone who got in the way, etc. Hopefully the world has learned better (though I doubt it - a recent UK case had a group of people being kept in a state of slavery for 30 years without it being noticed!) joppyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06334867727613848852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929808893459817585.post-65183864996649639612013-12-21T13:32:31.349-08:002013-12-21T13:32:31.349-08:00Although I consider myself left-leaning in my view...Although I consider myself left-leaning in my views to the point of horizontality, I have to say that the kind of PC nonsense depicted in the series of labels utterly incomprehensible. OK, it's not good enough simply to say 'those were the times', but in my view the effect is as much 'airbrushing' of history as the elimination of Kim Ill Sook's uncle from photographs of important events. He never existed: the Raj might as well never have existed. George Santayana had a word to say about the consequences of ignorance of history. This sort of thing is a great way to forget.

On a related topic, this country used to have Bushell's instant Coffee and Chicory - may still do - which I rather liked. I'm not much of a coffee drinker - preferring tea (gumboot variety) - but I recall that the chicory lent a flavour that I can only describe as 'pleasantly intriguing.' :-)

Cheers,
IonArchduke Piccolohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533325665451889661noreply@blogger.com
